When this Bethesda client approached us to enlarge, rebuild, and modernize their old rear deck there was just one problem – their favorite shade tree and its mature roots were dangerously close to the expanded footprint of the new deck.
The homeowners desperately wanted to save the tree, and that meant extreme care and precision had to be taken in the trimming its roots. One wrong move could not only doom the tree, but risk it one day falling on the house itself.
Not to worry! Attention to details just like this are what we live for here at Artistic Design Build. Our first order of business was a call to our Certified Arborist on speed dial, Andrew Walker of Davey Tree Experts. With his direction and some careful use of their air spade technique to safely expose the necessary roots for trimming, the tree was left in even better health than when we started.
Note to the right the transformation to not only a larger deck for their enjoyment, but the design upgrade of cable railing and an additional set of stairs for easy access on and off from anywhere in the yard.
