If you, or someone you know, currently lives in the Bethesda, Chevy Chase, or Northwest, D.C. area, you can probably guess one of the most common calls we receive here in the office … and it usually starts something like this … “we love our neighborhood, the schools are great, and we don’t want to move, but, this house just doesn’t work for us anymore.”
The reasons vary, and can be very personal to each family, but high on the list is almost always kitchens and bathrooms that are outdated or too small, not enough space, or a floor plan that feels dated and lacks the open flow so popular in today’s more modern homes.
For my wife Nancy (our lead architect here at Artistic Design Build) and myself, this is like music to our ears. As a Design Build firm we specialize in unlocking a home’s full potential in ways many of our clients never dreamed of – whether it’s a post World War II rambler in Bethesda in need of a second level addition, or a home that has simply lost its luster as your family and your lifestyle has outgrown it over the years.
That said, let’s start with the good news – you don’t have to move to have the house you always wanted. In fact, for many homeowners, when they factor in the actual cost of selling their existing home and then buying another (think realtor commissions, settlement fees, transfer taxes, moving costs, the higher cost of comparable homes in the market you may want to buy, and so on), the most cost-efficient thing you can do is beautifully renovate in place right where you are.
As a full-service Design Build firm, remember, that while we’re certainly happy to work from existing architectural plans you may have already commissioned, most typically we plan, design, and execute every minute detail of every renovation we put into place right here in-house. The result is a seamless planning and communication from start-to-finish, and that can make a world of difference.
When it comes to large renovations and custom home builds, one of the first people you will meet is my wife Nancy. I like to call her our secret weapon! As an architect with over 25 years of extensive remodeling experience, she has seen and done it all.
From creating and overseeing the tiniest detail of your architectural design with creative vision, to helping you pick out fixtures, color, and more, her role as both an architect and design consultant all rolled into one is unique to the industry and prevents our homeowners from being passed from one person to the next. Here at Artistic Design Build it’s one consistent voice from project start to finish.
If you’re interested in exploring a possible renovation for you home the first order of business is a quick ring to (301) 962-0123 or email here to our office to schedule a time to talk further.
