With home prices going through the roof and available inventory here in the local area at historic lows, most of the calls we take as of late here at Artistic Design Build have been from area homeowners looking for a way to leverage the lot and home they already own in a way that can deliver much more.
For some, the hardest part until we meet with them is envisioning and understanding the incredibly wide array of options that are almost always available.
With that said, we’re going to walk you through a makeover we performed in Montgomery County for clients of ours who had just plain grown tired of their home and felt stuck in their outdated ranch style design.
To begin, there were two giant pain points on their list. The first was that the entryway just did not feel inviting and felt small, and two was the interior (we’ll get to that later!) which felt cramped and out-of-touch with their desire to relax and entertain friends.
As a design-build firm this was music to our ears, so the first order of business was to design a completely new entry and walkway feature that would skyrocket the curb appeal, truly announce the front door, and welcome guests.
From the before and after photos at right, you can see what a dramatic difference this can make. Also, since our next move was to revamp the interior, we liked the added bang for the buck of knowing our client’s home would feel “new” to them from both the outside, and from the inside.
Speaking of the inside, true to its original 1950’s design, this home was about as compartmented as they come. Again, typical for the period, but completely out-of-touch not just for our clients, but for today’s market should they ever decide to sell.
As you follow-along below with the photos, note the complete re-imagination of what a 1950’s rambler could become.
In fact, it’s one of our favorite moments when at project completion, our client turns to us and says … “Wow, I just had no idea that my house could become this.”
And it’s true, most great design is just hidden in the opportunities already presented by your home. Our job here is to unlock that potential!
